Comparative study upon the symptomatology was done with the subject of 52 adolescent schizophrenics & 48 neurotics admitted in psychiatry department, Chosun University Hospital from Jan. 1973 to Dec. 1975. The results were as below;
1) Both male and female subjects were mid-adolescent aged between 16 and 18 years with the average age of 17.35. The number of patients was 55 of male, and 45 of female. 2) The subtypes of above two diagnosis were as below; In schizophrenics, Paranoid type was 26%, boarderline type 25%, acute schizophrenic episode 19%, chromic undifferentiated type 17%, childhood schizophrenia 10%, catatonic type 3%. In neuroses, transient situational reaction 29%, depressive neurosis 25%, hystercal neurosis 15%, anxiety neurosis 5%, depersonalization neurosis 2%, obsessive compulsive neurosis 1%. 3) With the analysis of the symtoms shown in more than 25% of patients in each groups, 5 symptoms of idea of reference, inappropriate affect, auditory hallucination, delusional experiences and emotional withdrawal in schizophrenics were statistically significant compared to those symptoms in neurotics. 4) symptoms of frustration with adaptation problem, severe anxiety, truancy, and disobedience in neurotics were statistically significant compared to those in schizophrenics. 4) Symptoms with similiar frequency in each group were depressive one, somatization, frustration with adaptation problem and impulsive behavior in frequency order.
